The Red Earth City Restructure Committee has nearly finalised it’s work and two related not-for-profit, member based organisations are REGISTERED.

That’s right folks, Sunburnt Arts and Sunburnt Events are live and taking applications for membership!

Exciting News! New Beginnings and YOUR Call to Action for the next Burning Seed!

Happy 2024 Sparkly Humans!

The Seed community has witnessed both some golden and meh moments over the past few years from online Burns during COVID to the celebratory return of Burning Seed Rekindle in ’23 that introduced fresh, keen, and vibrant energy.

All the while in the background, through the work of many a great mind and passionate Burner, the labour of love (#somuchlabour) restructuring the relationship between Burning Seed and Red Earth City Pty Ltd (REC) has continued.  By registering two new, community owned, not for profit organisations, this opportunity has finally come to fruition.

PAUSE: YES!

Without further ado, we would like to introduce YOUR two shiny new Community Orgs: 

• Sunburnt Arts Ltd (SBA): The cultural organisation that is a not for profit and hopes to gain registered charity (advancing culture) status very soon. This is the company that has us (the humans) as members.

  • The Sunburnt Arts Board will be elected to manage the charity and its legal obligations.
    
    

• Sunburnt Events Ltd (SBE): is the not for profit engine room that runs the Burning Seed event under licence to its one member, Sunburnt Arts Ltd.

  • Town Council will be elected by the members of Sunburnt Arts.
    
    

“Yea, yea but what’s that mean” you might be saying to yourself, “I’ve seen a burner org or two.”

These organisations are not just names, they are the final products of the Ancient Future (Community Engagement)) Report. Your advice in this report has been fully actualised... Through hours (many!) of meetings and vision sessions, with numerous amazing restructure volunteers over the years, and polls and discussions on Loomio, and checks with legal consultants…the Constitutions for both organisations have been completed with the findings in the AFR fully satisfied.

“Ok sure. But where are we now?”

Good question!

We have two related community owned and run companies, each with a complementary goal: Sunburnt Events will focus on operating the Burning Seed event, while Sunburnt Arts will focus on long term administration and governance. In future it may also act as a hub for other projects. This burn is YOUR burn.

Charity Status Sunburnt Arts - this application has been acknowledged by the ACNC for review and we await their decision.

An MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) is being drafted between the two companies (REC and SBA) that outlines the meat of the situation: asset transfer and the whens/hows.

THE EVENTS!! 

“We miss the magic of Seed” is a sentiment that may still be echoing in that crusty burnerTM  heart of yours. It certainly is in ours! It’s time to dust off those furry coats and get those LEDs blinky again because Seed IS HAPPENING!

Yes! Our first Burning Seed under the management of Sunburnt Events/Arts IS ON! In order to plan, produce and smash this event we of course need and want YOUR participation. We've heard you loud and clear – exclusion and restructuring anxieties are a thing of the past. Thank you for your patience as we usher in the NEW, shaped by YOU.

An Interim Committee has been formed, composed of members of the current Burning Seed Town Council and Restructure Committee who are not otherwise REC Board members. That structure looks like this:

• Sunburnt Events Ltd: Luke Anderson, Marcelo Araujo, Sam Carman

• Sunburnt Arts Ltd: Sam Carman, Madeline Fountain, Leanna Pugliese

  • Important Note: The Interim Committee is in place exclusively to establish the administrative requirements of the companies and manage the election of the first Town Council and Board: We are here to pave the way for YOU to get in the driver’s seat. 

Next Steps

Elections will be held for:

• Town Council of Sunburnt Events Ltd who are responsible for managing and producing the Burning Seed event.

  • Nominees for Town Council MUST be a Voting Member of Sunburnt Arts

The Board of Sunburnt Arts Ltd. These members are the people responsible for running the registered charity and managing the assets related to the Burning Seed event. More importantly Sunburnt Arts is the cultural organisation that works to promote and include everyone in Burner culture in all its forms.

Matong State Forest will remain the location of the next Burning Seed because it is the most suitable location for our Eastern Australian Regional Burn based on all the assessed metrics from 4 extensive site searches over the years. The Site Design tetris masters have suggested that all previous theme camps will be given priority to retain their traditional placements.
