TICKET UPDATE

We released our first tickets on Tuesday, which sold out almost instantly.

This is a good thing, it demonstrates how passionate our community is about Rekindling after COVID; it’s exciting to be a part of that. However, we recognise that it has (understandably) caused concern about tickets for Rekindle 2022. We’ve written this statement to help address these concerns.

There were over 4,500 tickets sold in 2019, however we have limited the event this year to around 1,500 tickets for a host of reasons, including site conditions. We’ll keep you updated on this if, and when, it changes in future.

The decision to scale down the event was made because several years have passed since Burning Seed last took place and we are still grappling with uncertainty, partly due to COVID. As such, scaling back seemed like a prudent and sensible decision to ensure a safe and successful event which can be built upon in future years. However, with the event being smaller, it became essential to separate ticket allocations for theme camps and volunteers who bring the lion’s share of magic and activation to Burning Seed.

If a theme camp needs 30 people to build and operate their experience, then they need to purchase 30 tickets, lest they be prevented from gifting their experience for everyone to enjoy; that’s what makes a burn event special. Burning Man itself has been doing this for nearly a decade. We would also like to ensure tickets are available for artists, locals, and First Nations folks, who also form a vital part of our community.

In rough terms, around two-thirds of tickets are currently allocated to the aforementioned groups, with the remaining third being allocated to general admission.

This allocation is similar to that of Burning Man, although the general public allocation at Burning Seed is a higher percentage of total ticket sales. Tuesday’s participant sale was only a part of the general admission tickets that will be made available to everyone. A further release of general admission tickets will be made available later in the ticket cycle, which will include tickets previously allocated to groups which have not been purchased by the due date. More details of these sales and their associated dates is on the ticketing page of the website.

It’s unfortunate that we can’t simply make tickets available to anyone who wants one, but that’s the reality of the event this year. What we can (and will) do however, is keep our website updated with ticket information including any changes that happen over time.

We would also like to note that all the Theme Camp, volunteer, and general admission tickets are being sold at the same price. Keeping the ticket price the same ensures the event remains equitable and that those who choose to invest their time and energy into the event are able to do so as a gift to the community; i.e. they are not remunerated with discounted tickets.
