And the 2022 theme is…
Burning Seed has a theme for 2022 - Rekindle! Sam Johnson put forward the idea to capture the spirit of reviving something lost or lapsed. We thought it perfectly reflected where we are at as a community of Burners digging deep to rebuild our beloved city.
Then came the art work… and we invite you to get lost in the detail of this collaborative wonder created by The (awesome) Crud Muffins! Their initial gift to our community has filled our hearts and sparked our imaginations and we can’t wait to see what they bring to the Paddock!
A word from the artists…
The Crud Muffins non-profit art collective were honoured to be given the opportunity to create the art for Burning Seed 2022, an event which has been both inspiring and transformative for the core CRUDS (Creative Recreation Until Dawn Supporters) on the CRUDmittee who advance the sayCRUD mission of the vibrant Central Coast, NSW based arts organisation.
With collaboration at the core of any good crudwork and fundamental to the ethos of The Crud Muffins, a total of 12 artists brought this year’s theme design from the immaterial expanse of the NadRad into the material realm for the Fleshkins of Earth to enjoy.
The theme ‘Rekindle’ immediately ignited images of a camp fire providing solace and warmth, its flames inspiring reverie as momentary impressions flicker and dance illuminating the surrounds with a gentle glow. This inspired the general composition and colour palette of the artwork, which seeks to replicate the mesmerising movement and flow of flames.
Amidst the frolicking fire sprites are NadRadian entities who embody the eleven Burning Man Principles at the core of the burner community’s culture – Radical Inclusion, Gifting, Decommodification, Radical Self-reliance, Radical Self-expression, Communal Effort, Civic Responsibility, Leaving No Trace, Participation, Immediacy, and the extra but not optional - Consent!
These beings, channelled by the 12 contributing artists, subtly integrate the geometric Burning Man Principles icons illustrated by James Wickham under a Creative Commons license. Additionally, a twelfth entity depicted as a brain capable of flight symbolises independent and critical thought beyond the recognisable and familiar burner ideals.
The resulting collaborative artwork, potent with symbolism, abundant with intention, and pulsating with CRUD magick, burns brightly to rekindle the joy, creativity, and connectivity of a community who have waited too long to come together once again to celebrate the beauty we create when we work harmoniously together to realise a unified vision.
