All Things ARTery

ART is the heART of Burning Seed. Our vision is to enable every artist to bring their audacious artistic visions to life and pull off the impossible.

We truly believe that community-driven, inclusive and interactive art is vital to a thriving culture and is at the heart of building healthy communities, change-making and human well-being.

The ARTery provides Art Grants, manages Registrations for Art on the Paddock and supports the creation of impactful, interactive artwork on the Paddock at Burning Seed.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Everyone, including volunteers, artists and their crews, must purchase their own tickets in order to attend the event.

Special conditions apply to any artwork that incorporates flames. You must have prior approval from both FART and ARTery so please read this before proceeding to the registration page.

Have a fantastical idea for a creative and audacious artwork, installation, performance or interactive mobile thingamabob, but don’t need funding for it? We encourage all artists - established and emerging - to bring the fruits of your imagination and your amazing creations to share with the community.

We love and encourage spontaneous combustions of creative energy anytime, anywhere at Burning Seed, but if you’re making art that you plan to display on the Paddock – especially large-scale, flammable or fiery art – it’s crucial that you register.

Registering your art with the ARTery ensures it can be placed the the most appropriate location for display by the Site Design team and included in the Burning Seed ‘What, Where, When’ guide! If you plan to install your creation within a Theme Camp, or in your camp, you still need to register.

All art must be registered, either Online or Onsite.

About the ARTery

The Art of Burning Seed

The inspirational differentiator for Burning Seed as a festival IS the audacious art and creativity - art is the beating heart of the event.

Whether it is designed to be temporal or made to last, built on a monumental scale or in miniature, made by a professional or an amateur, created individually or collectively, Burning Seed art features several key characteristics;

  • It is voluntary

  • It is participatory

  • It questions the value of art - financial vs experiential

  • It provokes ideas and challenges what art is

  • Much of it is formed by collaboration

  • It galvanizes the community to share resources

  • It dazzles with sheer audacity

  • It lifts the human spirit

  • It Leaves No Trace at Red Earth City (and beyond?)

Bringing Art to the Paddock is more challenging than other environments. Before applying for an Art Grant or Registering your Art on the Paddock, please take a moment to check out

“We see everybody as an artist without the need for credentials or training. It is a place for artistic experimentation without judgement or classification.”

- Elizabeth Scarborough, Burning Man Arts
