In Your EARS! Red Earth Radio FM!

Those Red Earth renegades of the airwaves are back!! That's right, Red Earth Radio FM will be coming in your ears at Burning Seed: Deep Space! AND YOU CAN LISTEN TO IT LIVE RIGHT NOW!!

Some seriously intergalactic plans for RERfm broadcasts this year - including the creation of a SpacePort to house a new studio and (with any luck) a live stream via Burning Man Information Radio - taking the Paddock straight to the furthest reaches of the universe!!

Those degenerate DJs have also got more down to earth issues to deal with - like paying for a legit ACMA FM license, a new 10 meter FM transmitter and antenna, streaming costs and a secure custom built, weather proof studio space to house their ear-based gear.

Burning Seed is splashing a little cash to the tune of $1100 towards securing some much needed hardware in 2016 - this is vital infrastructure for Seed that can be used well into the future.

Pledge

Now YOU have the chance to get in on the ground floor and stake your claim for some sweet RERfm schwag!! (and you get to help this motley crew bring their peculiar face-for-radio talents to Seed...)

Are Your Ears Burning? They Will Be…

RER

[bra_dropcaps style=’dropcap2′]D[/bra_dropcaps]o you have a ‘great face for radio’? Do your vocal chords sound like you regularly bathe them in honey? Are you a blooming or budding producer/presenter/DJ or weatherperson looking for a big break at Red Earth City? Then pin back your ears and read on…

Literally born from the vibrating ashes of the Burn, Red Earth Radio at last year’s Seed looked more like a concept (and/or a place to get fast food) than a radio station.

Since then, we’ve built a community and a following, we’ve created a 24/7 stream at www.bmaradio.net, and we’ve connected with Burner communities around the antipodes to bring the sound of not-silence to anyone with an ear to spare.

Now? We. Need. You. Red Earth Radio will be back – bigger, louder, and (with any luck) legal!  Slots for shows during Seed are flying off the shelves people so if you wanna get your creative juices into Burners’ ears LIVE this year you better be quick and let us know.

NEWSFLASH: Attention Burners! As part of your Burning Seed survival kit this year, please bring a small transistor radio capable of AM/FM reception!

Can you make sounds with your mouth or any other instrument? We want you. Can you make the weather forecast sound like foreplay? We want you. Can you mix sick trax n beats? We want you. Can you keep on talking even when silence threatens to creep over you like an enveloping darkness? Yep, we want you too.

We’ll have more than 120 hours of LIVE airtime over the course of Burning Seed and it is all yours to fill as you bloody well like. We’re also keen on hearing from community members with radio/broadcasting experience — god knows, we need you!!

If you wanna get involved — either with content or to help us crew this joint, don’t hang about. Content providers, we can even host your shit on our 24/7 shiz  www.bmaradio.net right now.

Music, spoken word, whatevs, just send us MP3 128kbps or lossless prerecorded files. Send your files to redearthradio@gmail.com and make sure it’s CLEARLY LABELLED as spoken word, songs, DJ set, animal noises etc.

In the email please include a brief description of the content and if your content contains ADULT themes or LANGUAGE. Keep it clean, k? There will be NO ADVERTISING (unless it’s fictional). Be guided by the 10 Principles people!

This is your shot. This is your opportunity! Don’t eat Mom’s spaghetti!

Burning Man Australia Radio set to hit net

Plans are underway for an online broadcast of Burner tunes, chat and other audiolicious content via Burning Man Australia Radio (BMAR). BMAR is, and will be, a fantastic example of the potential we have for collaborative and creative endeavour in this community.

Fresh and flushed from the success of the inaugural Red Earth Radio live broadcast at this year’s Burning Seed, those ‘fellas with faces for radio’ — Hotwire, SirAndy and Matt Stone — have joined forces with a formidable and highly experienced on-air talent — Sea Ansley — to build a new platform for community engagement, creativity and information in the form of a 24/7/365 online radio site.

BMAR will run throughout the year with music and DJ sets, interviews and other content from the Aussie Burner community, with live broadcasts via Red Earth Radio at Burning Seed and Blazing Swan, and events such as Decompressions, Theme Camp fundraisers etc.

Sowing the Seed

red earth radio

The concept of an Aussie Burner radio became a reality when legendary Burner Hotwire bought some basic kit for a broadcast at Seed 2014, and threw the idea out to the community.

Red Earth Radio, Burning Seed’s on-site broadcast station, was born under a marquee, on a trestle table, next to the ice truck.

Hotwire, SirAndy of Man, Si and Matt Stone hosted a daily show throughout Seed, attracting, cajoling and dragging in a variety of guests to interview.

Making (air)waves

Participants (who had a radio and knew the frequency) heard from medical guru Dimmer, cool dudes Duncan and Andrew, veteran burner Hey-you, now-not-so-shy Eric Doriean AKA Snorky, the super surreal Kitty and Ian, who was obsessed with SirAndy’s relationship with his parents.

Other guests included centre camp guardian Sparks, beatboxer Sacha Fawkes, legendary cabbie Joseph F Smith, Red Earth Radio’s heavenly fragranced weather consultant Frenchie Mercury (aka Steve Pollet), and the ubiquitous Jay Man.

Some of the best kicks from the radio show came from it’s connection to the ten principles, of course. Immediacy, radical inclusion, communal effort, radical self-expression, participation, civic responsibility (yes, there were public service announcements!), gifting — these were all present in the experience. It also underlined how the Burner community can be a  safe playground for any kind of crazy idea — no matter how much experience or equipment you have, so long as you have energy and excitement, you have all you need to make it happen.

Intertubes ahoy!

The boys are working closely with Burning Man Australia to develop the BMAR project and will have more to talk about come early 2015. They’re keen to hear from the community about your interest in getting involved — whether you wanna host a show, play your music, or help out on the technical stuff, BMAR wants to hear from you.

For now, drop by our Facebook page, register your interest and check out some of the content from this year’s Seed.
