LadySparkles, P.E.E.R Team Lead is pleased to introduce and welcome James aka Rakkar to the role of P.E.E.R 2iC.
Rakkar stumbled across Burning Seed in 2014, and got himself a Seed tattoo a few days after getting back to Sydney from that first burn. 'How did they imagine and organise an event so packed with so much trashiness, camping, community, joy & creativity' - he pondered after his first event. He decided he wanted to get more involved in creating the weird magic he witnessed a few years prior, so as the years rolled by he joined the Ranger Team, upped his gifting game, lent a hand to theme camps and nudged people in the default world - “Have you thought about coming to Seed? It isn’t a cult, but you should join us!” He is worried that this enthusiasm will one day result in his parents coming to Seed and he may have to be more selective in his displays of trashiness. Each one teach one -right?
In the default world Rakkar is a qualified Social Worker with a background in sexual health, substance use and general crisis work. He attempted to join P.E.E.R rangers in 2016, but we all remember how that Seed ended up. He was more successful in 2017 and in 2018 he will be supporting the P.E.E.R Rangers as 2iC - as well as the other dedicated volunteers who make the paddock as safe as can be. LadySparkles is excited to welcome Rakkar to the leadership team and is confident that his skills, passion and sense of humour will fit right in.
What is a Psychological and Emotional Emergency Response Ranger?
For those who don’t know - a P.E.E.R Ranger is a specialist branch of Red Earth Rangers who work alongside Rangers. They are trained and qualified to deal with more serious incidents at Burning Seed such as emotional and psychological crises. Whether it be attending to a distressed parent of a lost child, helping someone through an emotional situation or more infrequently responding to an assault, P.E.E.R Rangers are available to listen, support you and help you get your mind and spirit back to the event as quickly and safely as possible.
If you have skills and experience in counselling, crisis work, mental health or sexual assault response, the P.E.E.R Team encourage your application to join their team of rockstars. Training is onsite and shifts are only 4 hours. For more info or to apply please click on link below:
