Red Earth City Awaits
Burning Seed’s location is not just a site but a city — Red Earth City — and it is the place we call home for a few magical days together. This experiment in creative, participatory community springs up every October in the heart of the Matong State Forest, located about an hour west of Wagga Wagga, NSW.
Almost everything in our beautiful forest home is created exclusively by you — the participants. Together, we build and populate Red Earth City with its magic, and it’s this participatory ethic that makes a Burn and our Burner community so unique. When it’s time to say goodbye, we also leave the site exactly as we found it, or even better. Wanna see what our city looked like in 2015? Take a look at the 2015 Burning Seed site map.
Getting There & Away
Red Earth City is about a 5 hour drive from Melbourne, about 5.5 hours from Sydney, about nine hours from Adelaide, and about 13 hours from Brisbane. However, many Seed-goers also take a train or bus to Wagga Wagga or Narrandera and continue by regional bus to Matong, which is eight kilometres from Red Earth City. Several regional airlines also go to Wagga Wagga’s airport.

Gate opening and closing times 2016
Gate closing times are strictly enforced. If you arrive late, you will need to camp outside the event until gates open again.
Supporting the local communities that support us
Burning Seed has good relationships with several neighbouring towns. In fact, assistance from key locals has been critical to our event: we source timber for the Effigy and Temple from a nearby mill; rent and borrow equipment from local farmers; use local service providers where practical; and maintain open communication with community groups and councils.
We believe that having good relationships with our neighbours is mutually beneficial for our community and theirs, and we encourage Burners to respect and spend time in the surrounding area both before and after the event.
When transiting through the area, please consider buying some petrol, visiting local stores, stocking up on water and last-minute goodies, recuperating in a nearby hotel, or having a beer with the townies down at the pub.
